Lady In Red

I used to hate red with a passion growing up. My mum and my dad both loved the colour and I think that put me off it for many years. I never bought clothes in red, I never chose anything red and I couldn't stand red things. The only exception was red lipstick! I've always worn red lipsticks of some sort.

My dear dad who meant everything to me died in 2007 and since then I have been obsessed with red. I had started to like red more and more before he passed away too, but since he passed away I have been addicted to it. At first it reminded me of my dad and it made me happy. Red is such a strong colour and you are sure to be seen in red. After a while I started thinking that red was my colour as I felt so self confident and beautiful when I wore it. And people kept complimenting me whenever I wore red. When my mum passed away in the autumn of 2010 Mike and I was planning our wedding and both of us thought it would be a nice touch to have red as the theme colour. I even wanted to wear a red dress. And so I did! Red dress and I had a white bouquet with green. My bouquet also had three little charms with the initials A, L and E, the initials of my parents and Mike's dad who all couldn't be there on our big day. This way and by me wearing red meant that they were there. My dad gave me away even if I walked down the aisle with Mike.

Red is the colour of Christmas and for our Christmas lunch at work I wore a beautiful lace dress from New Look. You can still find the dress here, but be quick as it is getting low stock.

The dress is made in a stretchy lace with a beautiful red lining. The dress is fabulous fit, I bought it in 24 to accommodate for my huge boobs. It could have been better fit around the waist since I normally wear 20-22 in skirts and trousers, but the belt that comes with the dress takes care of that and gives my waist definition. The dress has got a lovely sweetheart neck and there is also a bit of unlined lace above it. In my opinion I wish that this part could have gone a bit higher cause it does expose my bra as the dress slides down. But nothing that a red cami and red bra won't take care of next time I wear it. The skirt is lovely and flowy and makes me feel very girly. I'm 5'6 and this dress reach me to the knees. I love the cap sleeves as it makes me feel a bit more comfortable. I just think it is more flattering with a bit of a sleeve than none. My only worry with lace dresses is the fear to catch the lace as I tend to that on all lace dresses I own, but I just have to be more careful wearing them.

It was a perfect dress for a Christmas Lunch and this dress will definitely come with me to Spain.

  1. Gorgeous dress. The red suits you great. I tried the red one to, but it wasn't my colour. Absolutely not. :D But it was worth the try.
