Has your mother had any influence on how you dress? I mean do you and your mum share the same style or is it completely different?
My mum passed away in 2010 and I miss her so much. She was perhaps not my fashion icon, but we certainly had things in common. My mum was a vivid and bold woman. She was never scared to wear big bold patterns and she loved big bold jewelry. I remember as a child I always thought my mum looked so strong and beautiful. She had long curly hair and she always had bright red lips and red nails. I remember she set her hair every night, something I can't be bothered to do. She painted her nails and the smell of nail polish remover is something that is set strong in my mind. She had powder, mascara and lipstick in her handbags and as a child her handbag was like a treasure chamber. Not only was there make-up, she also loved as I said bold jewelry. She bought jewelry quite often and this was another thing that fascinated a 5-6 year old Mookie.
Now over 30 years later it is me that is wearing the bright make up and jewelry and bold colours. I couldn't be without all of it. And that is something I think has come from seeing my mum being so strong and not at all scared to stand out in a crowd, cause she really did.
Sadly I don't have any photos of my mum with make up or jewelry as I have lost almost everything of old photos since I have been moving so much. It is very sad, but I have the memories that lives strong in my head and heart.
Do you think that your mum has inspired you in the way you dress now? If so how?

My mum inspired me in exactly one thing: NOT to become her. So, no … she didn't inspire me in the way I dress. And if you would know her, you would be happy. ;)

Aww well at least that is a kind of inspiration. How does your mum dress then? :) xx
DeleteOh, back in the 70s, my Mum was well dressed. But after she got me, one could think that she thought: "Ok, now I have a husband and a baby, I can walk around like an 80 years old grandma, which has no money to buy clothes. Or something like that. Brrrrr … xoxo
ReplyDeleteAh I see. Well I guess it has helped you not do the same error. It's a shame that she let herself go like that as it is so essential to feel good to look good. :) You have great style though. xx
DeleteThank you so much :) x x x She let herself totally go. When I have a look at my aunt, who has nearly the same age … there are worlds between them. :(
DeleteAww that must be so sad to see your auntie dress nicely.. Doesn't your mum care? Is your auntie an inspiration for you? xx
DeleteNot for fashion, but for living a happy life with an older age. She's 70+ now and so young and fit. She and my uncle drives every year to Norway, he for fishing, she for bicycle tours. :)
DeleteNo, my mum doesn't care. When I celebrate my birthday on the balcony from my parents (because it's so huge), she only wears those shapeless, dirty dresses. Then she sits on a chair with open legs so you can see her … you know, what I mean. It's embarrassing. I could tell more, but that’s the wrong place and it’s also too gross.
So what. Can’t change her. The main point is that I don’t become her in the future.

Oh dear. That is not good. Doesn't she care if people see? Have you tried talking to her? And you are right, you can't change her and just not become her in the future. :)
DeleteAww you should go with your auntie and uncle to Norway sometime. It's lovely. Or come over on your own or with hubby and I'll be your guide. xx
No, she doesn't and she can’t handle the truth, so it's not worth the effort. My aunt tried it a few years ago. No chance.
DeleteBut I moaned enough about my mum.
Please, don’t put me longer than one day with my aunt in one room, especially not in a camper. Because she is the aunt who tells me all the time, that I "can be fat, but not THAT fat". I think, I'll will go for her throat, if I’m longer together with her. *lol* But some day, the hubby and I want to see norway. Just don’t know when it will happen. :) xx
Clothes are not really my Mum's thing at all and she dressed in Indian clothes or quite frumpy suits when I was a kid! However she does love a novelty jumper which I guess we do share!
ReplyDeleteHehe, sounds a bit quirky with Indian clothes. :) Do you have Indian family? :) Novelty jumpers? Now that is something I look forward reading about. I don't think I have a novelty jumper. perfect time of the year for one though. xx
