English Office Look Standards

Working in an office here in England can mean that it is quite a strict dress code. Coming from Norway, I wasn't used to strict dress codes and office etiquette so when I got my first office job here I had to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe. I actually did divide my wardrobe into two parts, one for work and one for out of work.

In my current job we have the dress code smart casual, so we are pretty much free to wear what we want as long as we don't wear anything too alternative.

One of my recent favourite outfits is this lovely Kira Animal Print Bardot dress from Pink Clove. It's sexy without being too sexy and I have toned the sexiness down by wearing it with leggings and flat shoes.Wearing my Mookie necklace from Black Heart Creatives and a blue cute flower in my hair.  I think this works for work. Especially now when it is gradually getting warmer and even if your shoulders
are on display it still keeps you modest.

I can't stand most of traditional office wear, it is so uniform like, badly designed and limiting, so when I can, I try to push it a bit further. A lot of people would say that this wasn't even appropriate for dress down Fridays, but I have never understood what difference it makes to your professionalism if you are showing some more of your personal style in the way you dress? In my opinion you show more creativity and new thinking in being allowed to showing off your personal style than being conformed into conservative norms. But hey then again that is just my opinion.

It's such a beautiful dress that I will get a lot of use for outside work too. I can't wait to wear it for a more dressed up date night. Team it with red high heels and some nice accessories and you're ready.

Wearing:

Dress from Pink Clove (HERE)
Leggings from Sainsburys
Belt from another dress
Shoes from New Look (Sold out)
Necklace from Black Heart Creatives ( Get custom made necklaces HERE)

Here is a few other outfits I have worn to work before and I think they all look great for work.

Do you have a strict dress code at work or can you wear whatever you want to? Or maybe you have to wear a uniform?

  1. I work in a fairly corporate environment with a lot of clients coming in for meetings so my workwear wardrobe is constantly verging on boring! I try to get around this by having a series of pretty print wrap dresses that get rejuvenated every year or so and staggeringly high (and often statement) heels.

I also love a pair of wide legs trousers with shirt of some kind.

I realise I do tone down my style at work - but I hope I still retain my personality.

    1. You are lucky that are able to wear sky high heels. I can't since getting this balance disorder. :( It's a shame as I love heels and I'm full of admiration over that you manage to walk in them. :) I dress more corporate when we have clients in or meetings, but most days I'm quite relaxed in my way of dressing. :) It's very important to show some of your personality even at work. :)

  2. I don't have an official dress code working with teenagers some with aggression issues, although they ask us to keep jewelry to a minimum and enclosed toes on shoes. It has to be practical so jeans and jumpers feature more heavily than I'd like. I do wear leggings and dresses sometimes but they need to be quite high necked. I usually feel a bit dowdy at work and am going to work on my work wardrobe a bit as it doesn't always feel very me. I think your work outfits are lovely, special mentions to the blue dress, black dress with collar and brown belt and the yellow cardigan with the white dress.

    1. I can see why that is Vicky. I would never ever describe you as dowdy!! I'm sure you don't look that even in more neutral clothes. Everything serves a purpose and in a job like yours it's understandable to not provoke anyone either so then clothes doesn't become as important. I think it is so admirable the work you do as that is something I wouldn't manage to handle doing! :) xx

  3. I love your office looks! The bardot dress is especially beautiful. I think Finland is similar to Norway in this respect, most offices do not have a strict dress code. I work on a research grant at the moment so I can basically wear whatever I want, but I try to make more of an effort to look "professional" if I'm attending a seminar or something like that. :)

    1. Yes, you are probably right Hanna. I think all of Scandinavia and the Nordic countries are quite laid back. It was the same when I lived in Canada as well. I work in an office environment and I still could wear jeans to work. I dress up on occasion too if we are going somewhere in a meeting or get clients coming in.

    1. Thank you Nikky. :) I love this dress both for work and outside work. I think it adds some of me as well as it still looks ok for the office. Dress and cardigan is an unbeatable combination for work. Practical and fun. :) I love that gif too.. It was such a fun day in the office. :)

  5. I love the gif, so cute! I love the leopard print dress, it's lovely. My worst ever uniform was when I worked at Comet. The shirts were a dull orange which always looked dirty. It was hideous. :P xx

    1. Thank Leah. I found it and it brought a smile to my face, so I decided to post it. :) Haha, my niece worked for Comet and I remember she always complained about the dirty washed out orange colour uniform... yuk!! Orange can be nice, but that was far from nice. xx
