Do You Wear Maxi Dresses In Autumn?

I have lots of different maxi dresses in my wardrobe and I don't want to pack them away even it is getting colder outside. So far we have been really lucky with the temperatures so far in the autumn as it's been as warm as a summers day. That mean that I can just use my maxi's as I normally would do.

This lovely maxi dress I had been lusting over ever since I saw in the SS14 viewings from Marisota. I love the colours. The block colours in the skirt especially. I have used this dress just once as for me it was too short as I like my maxis to be floor length. And that a maxi dress is too short for me is hard to find cause at 5'6 it's rather the opposite! But that made me think that since winter is coming I could wear it with army boots and wool socks and a warm jacket. That way it doesn't matter if it is a bit short. Cause the colours of the dress would go in the winter as well. I even like wearing pastels in the winter, so I'm really just talking non sense here :)

In these photos I've teamed the dress with a lovely blazer from The Curve since it is still not that cold. In winter I would wear it with a jacket or a parka to make the outfit more casual.

This jacket is so far my favourite to buy this season is from Asos. It can be bought here.

This jacket would help me bring my block colour maxi into a lovely winter dress.

To finish the style I would go for

These amazing boots are from Dr Martens and can be found HERE.

I like the challenge of bringing summer clothes into the autumn and winter as it means that I can wear my favourites all year long.

Do you wear maxi's in the winter?

  1. Hi Mookie. Thanks for a great post! I've glanced at that dress and passed it by as I didn't think that I could make the colours work. On you however, it looks terrific! Just like you I put most of my empire-line dresses into hibernation for winter, and my lagenlook comes out to play, but I might just give this dress a try! You and I are totally opposite shapes, plus you're much slimmer than me, but you've inspired me to at least give it a try. J x

    1. Thank you for you kind words. I'm glad I've inspired you to try converting summer clothes into the winter. ;) It might be that you find a new favourite look of the season. And it doesn't matter what size you are, just wear the clothes with confidence. :) xx

  2. Hi Mookie. I've also been looking at that dress but been unsure about it, so to see it on you is really helpful. It looks great!

I wear maxi dresses (or skirts) all year 'round. Mostly because I have the most awful knock knees, which I have hidden from the world all my life. I also have quite short legs and a long torso, and I'm pretty much 'pear-shaped', so I feel most comfortable in an empire-line, long maxi dress.

As for wearing them in Winter... I put the lighter fabrics and brighter colours away, and bring out the heavier fabrics and darker colours. If it gets really cold I layer - long sleeve T, shirt, jumper/cardi, jacket/coat; and no one needs to know you've got thick wooly socks and some leggings underneath!

The final change I make is to wear boots with a (thick) heel an inch or so higher than I'd normally wear in Summer. This is to prevent the hem of my dress being dragged through puddles or slush (cold, wet ankles = eww!).
